Winter Training

  • Training will be held on Mondays and Thursdays – 5pm to 6.15pm
  • We have three venues for our Winter Program training schedule
  • Parents are most welcome to join your children at training
  • Saturday Race Day dates [host centres] are also listed below.

During the first few weeks of training all parents will need to ensure they sign in and provide their children/s details, including a mobile phone number, on the contact list.  You will need to indicate if you are already registered (from last Summer) or are new to athletics.  This information will be used to update the email list and to have on hand in case of an emergency.

WALA have introduced electronic timing for 2017 and all athletes who have just completed Summer athletics will need to purchase their season electronic timing chip at a cost of $5.  You only need this timing chip if you plan to race.

Parents who are new to athletics will also need to pay the Winter registration fee of $85.  This covers all training and races, as well as the timing chip.  New athletes will also need to provide a copy of their birth certificate upon registration.  I will email all new athletes the registration form which can be emailed back to me with copies of your children’s birth certificates.

As always parents are very welcome to join in with training. Those who intend to come regularly may also like to assist with organising the children for specific drills.

REGISTRATION AND COST

There are no requirements for Summer Athletes to register for the Winter Program but it is necessary that you fill out a contact form with your personal details. This information will be held at training in case of an emergency. It will also be used to correspond with you throughout the season.

New members who wish to sign up solely for the Winter Season may register at training. You will have to complete a registration form and provide a copy of your child’s birth certificate. The cost per athlete is $85.00 for the season.

Uniform

Athletes can wear their own clothing for training sessions. However, if participating in Championship Races, athletes must compete in the Hamersley strip. U7 to U9’s may compete in their club strip, if they wish to. Uniforms may be purchased during training at a cost of $30 for the top and $20 for the shorts. • Please note that continuing summer athletes must use their existing summer registration number. •

New winter athletes will be provided with a new number before their first race.

Competition Days

The race dates, host centres and venues are detailed in the above schedule. Please note that this information is subject to change, in particular, the order of running for each age group’s race. We strongly recommend that prior to each race date, you double-‐check the information that can be found on the Hamersley or WALA websites. NB. Our Hamersley Centre Race day is not confirmed yet for 2018.

Roster

It is compulsory for each family to volunteer for one rostered duty on the Hamersley Centre Race day, failure to do so will preclude your child from participating on that day.

Rules of Competition

These can be found in the yellow 2017/2018 booklet. We encourage you to familiarise yourself with the rules.

Coaches

We have a couple of volunteer coaches who have varying levels of experience. Between them, they will endeavour to provide a comprehensive program for all participants.
